Title: Introduction to Psychopathology (PSY 430)

Description: An overview of sociocultural views and scientific theories of normalcy and deviance. The major psychological, cognitive, and behavioral disorders and their classification are examined.

Learning Outcomes: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the following:

  1. The history of attempts to understand abnormal behavior.
  2. The concepts of abnormality in its various forms. Such concepts will include biological, behavior, social, interpersonal and intrapsychic models.
  3. The concept of causation (or antecedents) in connection with abnormal behavio.
  4. Current diagnostic systems i.e. the DSM IV TR 5 Axis system.
